Quinta da Biaia, a historic property dating back to the 17th century, is a project that focuses on organic and vegan viticulture, bringing together friends Carlos Flor and Ricardo Lopes Ferro. The project was joined by Horácio Nunes, a key figure in the region's taste for oenology and viticulture, as well as resident winemaker Luís Santos.
Biaia is located in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, framed by the Marofa Mountains, in Beira Interior. Its 29 hectares of vines, with grape varieties typical of the region, are at an unrivalled altitude of 700-750 m.
It is in this highest wine region in Portugal that the wines are produced and consequently influenced in their production by the mountain, surrounded by the Estrela, Gardunha, Marofa and Malcata mountains. The climate of this region, with soils mostly of granite origin and the remaining soils essentially schistose, is very harsh, with negative temperatures in winter and very dry and hot summers.
Quinta da Biaia privileges the spirit, freshness and natural acidity, therefore its wines portray its origins, not using synthesized products, neither those of animal origin.
