Businessman and gastronome José Bento dos Santos bought Quinta do Monte d'Oiro in Alenquer in 1990. After a thorough study of the ecological conditions of the site, he opted for the Syrah grape variety, whose bacelos (high-quality clones) were imported directly from France, from the Côtes du Rhone region.
The conversion of the entire vineyard area at Quinta do Monte d'Oiro to Organic Production Mode (MPB) was the natural way to fulfil his vision: 'Wines that faithfully express the terroir'.
These are wines that demonstrate verve, character, a good aptitude for ageing and the ideal balance to be presented at the table.
